Free Software jobs in abundance

The tech industry knows there's plenty of hiring going on. Those of us who specialize in Free and Open Software (FLOSS) such as GNU/Linux are even more in demand. Free Enterprise is using Free Software.

Know PHP, Java, Perl for a GNU/Linux environment? There are jobs out there. Know GNU/Linux system administration, apache, nginx? Yup, there are openings. MySQL ( and variants ), PostgreSQL, big data? Oh yeah, lots of hiring. Puppet, CFEngine, Chef? KVM, VirtualBox? Lots of places to do many things at once.

Big companies and small are looking for FLOSS support. They're also using FLOSS applications, so need people who can do application support.

New technologies like big data and cloud services are mostly GNU/Linux based and the applications have Free Software licenses, so those with a FLOSS background have a huge advantage in the fastest growing sectors.

A survey from DICE and The Linux Foundation found lots of world wide demand for Linux professionals. See the full report for key findings such as 49% of respondents needing more Linux professionals because their companies are growing and 48% saying that use of Linux in the company is growing.

Free Enterprise depends on Free Software. ABLEconf 2012 features presentations on why businesses should use FLOSS. But, it also has presentations on technical recruiting ( finding FLOSS professionals ) and evaluating tech input for strategic and tactical decision making ( getting the best input out of your FLOSS professionals ).

Huge demand in the market doesn't mean that everyone who does GNU/Linux tech readily gets a job, but most do. Still has to be the correct person for the correct job, but it's currently a job-rich environment for those with FLOSS skills and experience. A presentation at ABLEconf will also cover resume writing strategies to help you show yourself to be the right person for that job.
